Booking for the Baviaans Canyon Trail

The Baviaans Canyon Trail is booked per group of 4 hikers, and three groups of 4 hikers can start each day.  Bookings are not done per individual hiker, but in groups of 4 hikers at a time.

Each trail departure date has space for a maximum of 12 hikers.

How to Book

When booking, choose your hiking start date and then select how many groups of 4 people you are booking for: 1 group (4 hikers), 2 groups (8 hikers) or 3 groups (12 hikers).

You only need to select the start date. The system will automatically include the full hike, as well as your accommodation before and after the trail.

If you book for 3 Groups of 4 Hikers (12 hikers in total)  you book the full trail departure and have the trail exclusively to yourselves.

If you book for 1 Group (4 hikers) or 2 Groups (8 hikers) you are likely to share the trail with 1 or 2 other groups of 4.

The booking system will show you how many spaces are still available for Groups (1, 2 or 3), not individual hikers.

Sleeping is in 6 rooms with two people per room, and toilets en suite.

For Clarity

• When booking you select your HIKING START DATE only. You are automatically booked for the whole 5 day/4night hike, the accommodation for the night before and the night after.  You do NOT need to book the following nights.

Pricing for 2027 Hikes

January and February 

1 Group (4 hikers): R23,600
2 Groups (8 hikers): R47,200
3 Groups (12 hikers): R70,800

This works out to R5,900 per person.

Rest of 2027

1 Group (4 hikers): R27,600
2 Groups (8 hikers): R55,200
3 Groups (12 hikers): R82,800

This works out to R6,900 per person.

Your Booking Includes

• 5-day / 4-night slackpacking hike
• 4 nights on the trail
• 1 night accommodation before the trail
• 1 night accommodation after the trail
• Slackpacking service between overnight camps

The Baviaans Canyon Trail is a popular trail, and so we thought we would share some notes on how to book in a way that increases your chances of getting the dates you want.

• Firstly, we do not give anyone early access or preferential bookings. When we open the bookings to the public, everyone has the same chance to get a booking.  The only dates that may not be available are for our own team’s inspection hikes (usually one booking every quarter).
• All bookings must be made online through our booking system.  We do not take bookings via email or phone. 
• The date and time the bookings will open will be publicized on our social media pages – make sure to follow us to keep informed.
• When making a booking, select only the starting date of your hike.
• We use a third-party booking system that follows the same principles as most booking and ticketing services. There are a few things worth noting:
1. The booking system only blocks out a booking as being not available when someone making that booking has completed the booking process.
2. Therefore, if you and another person both start booking a specific date at the same time, the first person to complete the booking will receive the date, while the second person will be told the date is no longer available even if they are in the process of finalising the booking.
3. Given the above, your goal should be to complete your booking as quickly as possible.

Cancellation Policy

All cancellation requests for confirmed bookings are subject to the following provisions as well as section 17(3) and (4) of the CPA:

• Confirmed bookings, which are cancelled more than 40 days prior to the booked arrival date, shall be refunded in an amount equal to 75% of the full booking value or credit to rebook.  No individual hiker cancellations, only per hut as per booking.
• Confirmed bookings, which are cancelled within 40 to 15 days prior to the scheduled arrival date, shall be refunded in an amount equal to 50% of the full booking value or credit to rebook. No individual hiker cancellations, minimum requirements must be adhered to.
• Confirmed bookings, which are canceled within 14 days of the booked arrival dates shall not qualify for a refund or credit.

All confirmed bookings must be cancelled in writing.
The Client shall forfeit 100% of the total cost for any non-arrival.

Cancellation due to FIRE or FLOODS

In the event of a fire or flood, Go Baviaans reserves the right to cancel all booked hikes in the interest of hikers’ safety.
No refunds will be repaid, and the full amount will be held in credit for one year for a future reservation, with hikers given priority for next available booking dates
